Hollow Form Hidden Compartment Necklace with Handmade Chain and Montana Sapphire Key Clasp
This substantial necklace has many details integrated into an original, contemporary design. I have constructed it with hollow form layers and overlays inside an oval silhouette. On the front is an 18k gold spot, subtly fused gold dust on the curved bridge overlay, and a brilliant teal Montana sapphire. The stone is on a “key” that serves as the clasp for the necklace, inserted and removed through a slot on the back and rotated to lock into place. The back also holds another secret: the geometrically patterned back layer flips up to reveal a small hidden compartment.
• The locket snaps securely closed with an inner tension sleeve. The hinges are hidden under the back.
• This hollow form pendant measures just under 1 1/2" by about 1 1/8”.
• The AAA quality faceted teal Montana Sapphire is 3mm in diameter.
• The substantial, large-link handmade sterling silver chain is 20" long and is made of thick 16 gauge silver. I would be happy to add or remove links to adjust the length. Each swirling leaf link (plus small connecting link) is about 1 1/4" long.
• This piece (including the chain) was made entirely by hand in my home studio with sterling silver, fine silver, and 18k gold.
