Turquoise and Fire Opal Key Clasp Necklace with Handmade Chain and 18k Gold
This unique statement necklace features a domed cicada wing hollow form through which a fire opal key is inserted to serve as the clasp. 18k gold accents the front, and a beautiful blue and white turquoise hangs from the wing, encased in 18k gold. The back shows an original pattern and another impression of a cicada wing. The loop linking the turquoise to the rest of the necklace is also 18k gold. I have handmade the 20" chain and given the silver an antiqued patina with a matte finish.
• The natural faceted, tube-set fire opal is 4mm in diameter.
• The turquoise is about 23mm x 13mm. It has likely been stabilized for durability. My husband acquired this piece of turquoise from a rock shop in Arizona while on a trip, labeled as Bisbee turquoise. I don't have 100% confidence in its provenance (the Bisbee mine closed in the 70's and old stock should be much harder to find), but it's a beautiful stone regardless of its origin.
• I've made the cicada wing texture by imprinting the wings of found (naturally expired) cicadas into the silver. Cicadas are a traditional symbol in many cultures of good luck, joy, and rebirth.
• This pendant is approximately 2" tall by 1 3/4" wide.
• The handmade sterling silver chain is about 20" long including the width of the pendant itself. I can add or remove any number of 1" links upon request.
• This piece (including the chain) was made entirely by hand in my home studio with sterling silver, fine silver, and 18k gold.
• Your purchase will be delivered in elegant packaging, ready to give or wear.
